Funeral services for Wylie Gene Hill, Sr., better known by many as “Gator” or “Pops”, will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, August 23, 2019 at the Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis. With Pastor Loyd Christensen officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.
Wylie was born April 9, 1944 in Wynnewood to the late Lewis Talmadge & Lula Marie (Cunningtubby) Hill. He died Monday, August 19, 2019 in Ada, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 10 days. Wylie and the former Ms. Eva Charlene Cox were married on August 9, 1964 in Ardmore. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2013.
Wylie spent the first few years of his life in Wynnewood, prior to his family moving to Texas. In 1994, he and his family moved to Davis. In 2000, he retired after many years in the trucking industry. Although he was officially retired, Wylie continued to work. He and his sons installed conveyor belts in warehouses for several years. He was a very skilled, self-employed carpenter. He was most known for building his unique “Gator” picnic tables, as well as selling watermelons. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley. He was an avid fan of the tv series “Gunsmoke.” He cherished spending time with and spoiling his grandchildren.
Survivors include his two daughters, Delina Hill of Horatio, AR and Shelly Hamrick of Sulphur & husband Danny of Wynnewood; two sons, Wylie Hill, Jr & wife Mandy Burghy of Wynnewood and Bradley Hill & wife Jessica of Davis; as well as his 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Wylie was preceded in death by seven siblings, Troy Hill, Peggy Owings, Albert Hill, Herbert “Buck” Hill, Geneva Hill, Lila Hill and Kathy McGahey.
