William Hampton “Bill” Tallant was born on November 10, 1939, in Roff, OK, to the late Cecil Ruffard & Della Mae (Stephens) Tallant. He departed for his Heavenly home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, May 22, 2022, in Duncan, OK, at the age of 83 years, following a four-year battle with cancer.
Bill was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Davis. Soon after graduating from Davis High School in 1959, he married Harvena Pettitt. From this union were born four children, Kerry, Cindy, Michael, and Lisa. In 1960, Bill joined the United States Air Force. During his service to our country, he traveled many places and was stationed in many places, with the furthest being Okinawa, Japan.
After serving in the Air Force, Bill moved his family to Georgia, where he worked for Lockheed and Delta Airlines. He said no matter where he was in the world, he was always looking for a way back home to Davis. Bill often joked with his family by saying, “If I can’t see the water tower, I’m too far!’ He finally returned home to Davis, where he raised his family, while working as a welder for the City of Davis.
Some of Bill’s best times in life were when he was fishing. He would fish in the wind, rain, and even the snow. His favorite fishing buddy and best friend was his beloved grandson, Wil. Bill said he had his best talks with God while he was fishing. When Bill was diagnosed with cancer in January 2018, he asked God to give him just one more Spring, so he could go fishing. He was blessed with four more Springs and was able to fish each one.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two children, Michael and Lisa; one sister, Luan Adams; and one brother, Richard Tallant.
Survivors include his two daughters, Kerry Koch & husband Melvin of La Harpe, KS, and Cindy Rochell & husband Jack of Duncan; four grandchildren, Brandi Witt & husband Curtis of Wilson, Bill Maddox & wife Kristin of Elmore City, Wil Taylor of Duncan, and Bethanee Taylor & fiancé Carlos of Wayne; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Bill was also blessed with four nephews, Dale, Dean, Tim, and Kevin: and two nieces, Tracy and Becky.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00AM, on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis, with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating.
Per Bill’s wishes, the family requests in lieu of flowers, charitable donations be made to the City Rescue Mission, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospitals, Shriner’s Hospitals; or a charity of your choice.
