William Elick “Bill” Thompson
Bill was born Feb 3, 1934 in Sulphur to the late William Earl & Dellar (Burgess) Thompson. He died Friday, Mar 21, 2014 in Purcell, at the age of 80 years 1 month and 18 days. Bill and Nancy Beatrice Billings were married on Feb 4, 1956 in Sulphur. She preceded him in death on May 26, 1993.
Bill grew up in the Sulphur area. Early in his working career he worked for Keywitt Construction during the building of Interstate-35. He later went to work for Dolese Brothers at the Big Canyon Quarry south of Dougherty as a plant operator. When Big Canyon closed, Bill went to work as a plant operator for McKee/Western Rock, west of Davis, where he remained until his retirement in 1996. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren, as well as listening to Bluegrass music. He was a 32 Degree Mason, with membership in the Sulphur lodge.
Survivors include one daughter, Vicky Morrow & husband Michael of Purcell; one son, Rick Thompson & wife Tammy of Sulphur; three grandchildren, Jesse Thompson of Sulphur, Kristy Derby & Billy Morrow, both of Purcell; eight great-grandchildren, Kebi, Makaylah, Laci, Matthew, Kaylee, Chloe, Alex & Matt; as well as one sister, Ellen Draper of Tulsa.
Others preceding Bill in death include his parents; one sister, Lorene Thompson; and four brothers, Delbert, Carl, Virgil & Loyd Thompson.
Serving as pallbearers were Mike Morrow, Billy Morrow, Jesse Thompson, Jim McCracken, Brian Blalock & Ray Holden. Honorary bearers were Donald McCracken, Robert Kintopp & Junior Bumgardner.
