William Theodore "Will" Carter, IV
William Theodore Carter, IV, better known as "Will", was born May 28, 1981, in Baton Rouge, LA, to William Theodore and Belinda Kay (McKee) Carter, III. He died on Monday, June 18, 2024, in Sulphur, at the age of 43 years and 21 days.
As the son of an oil field worker, the earlier years of Will's life were spent living in various towns where his father worked. At the age of nine, the family settled in Wilburton, OK, where he called home. He attended school in Wilburton, where he excelled in sports, most specifically football. His sporting abilities led him to receive numerous college offers, with his top two choices being Oklahoma State and Louisianna State University. Will's dream of playing college football took a tragic turn at the beginning of his senior year when he sustained a major knee injury. Although unable to play football, Will did attend Southeastern Oklahoma State University, following his 1999 graduation from Wilburton High School. He later attended college in Albuquerque, NM, where he studied law and security enforcement.
Will was a loving, Christian man. He arrived in New Orleans a few days after Hurricane Katrina hit and lived in a church gymnasium for two years doing only volunteer work. He worked as head of security with a local church operated search and rescue team, Operation Blessing. During that time, he also led a drug and alcohol rehab program run by the church. Will impacted countless lives with his service to and love for the Lord.
In 2010, Will relocated to Davis, OK, to assist with his mother's care. There he began working for Jantz Supply. Working at Jantz Supply provided him not just a career but a family-like environment that enriched his craft and life. Will's passion for creating knives was a testament to his skill and artistry. In addition to working at Jantz's, he also spent several years working with the Davis Police Department as a reserve officer.
Will is survived by his mother, Belinda Carter of Davis; grandmother, Mildred McKee of Mustang, OK; adopted brothers, Travis Powell & wife Amy, and their daughters, Alyssa and Zoey, of Wilburton and Rodney Campbell & wife Linda & their children Bodey & Kaylee; aunts, Teresa Allen of Enid, OK, Lisa Hedrick of Ennis, TX, Luana Pender of Mustang; uncle, Greg McKee of Mustang; cousins, Scott Allen & wife Amy and Amanda Allen, all of Enid, Cierra Hedrick of Dallas, TX, Carrie Anderson of Camarillo, CA, and Michael Anderson & wife Janey of McPherson, KS; as well as many other adopted brothers and sisters in Wilburton.
