Wanda Joy Tingle was born September 28, 1938, in Sulphur, to the late Arthur and Beatrice “Bea” (Barrow) Mann. She passed from this life on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at her home in Sulphur. She was 84 years, 5 months, and 18 days young. Her mother, Bea, was a schoolteacher for many years and retired from the county welfare office. Her father, Arthur, worked for the CCC, Dolese and as a carpenter, building many houses in the community.
Wanda grew up in Sulphur, graduating from Sulphur High School, Class of 1956. After high school, she went to work for Oklahoma Gas and Electric; however, years later the company split, and she went to the work with electric side at OG&E, retiring after 38 years of service.
Wanda married the late Charles Ray “Charlie” Tingle on January 17, 1969 in Sulphur. He preceded her in death on May 27, 2015.
Wanda was a member of the Business & Professional Women’s organization for many years. Being that Charlie was a longtime member of the Sulphur Volunteer Fire Department, Wanda served on the Women’s Auxiliary for many years, helping to make and deliver sandwiches to the firemen when they were called out on large fires. She also devoted her time to the Sulphur Fire Department by helping to raise money by selling annual Chili Supper tickets to purchase needed equipment; along with making cakes and other desserts for the Chili Supper. One year, she alone made 27 cakes for the Chili Supper.
Wanda was well known for her famous Rum cakes. She often made this famous cake for area benefit auctions. She was very proud of the fact that one of her cakes sold for $825.00. She would gladly share her recipe with others, however, no one else could compete with the Rum cakes she made. She allowed the difference was, she made hers with love. Often, Wanda could be found helping Charlie in the garden or working in the kitchen, cooking, baking, canning vegetables from their garden, making jellies or hot sauce.
Wanda was always willing to help anyone who was in need. All anyone had to do was to call and she would be on her feet hustling to do whatever was needed of her. She always enjoyed cooking for families who had lost loved ones.
Wanda loved her family with a Godly heart. Her grandchildren, Joshua and Kaitlyn, were the light of her life.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Gary Tingle & wife Michele, of the home; grandson, Joshua Tingle of Tulsa; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Tingle of Stillwater; two sisters, Judy Hill of Edmond and Jackie Stout & husband Jim of Washington State; nephews, Jerrad Hill & wife Karissa & their children Lauren & Mason of Edmond, Johnny Mann & family, Greg Mann & family, and Glen Stout & family of Lusby, Maryland; nieces, Theresa Hill & children Katherine & Henry of Tulsa, Debbie Touchette & family of El Dorado, CA, and Karla Thrall & family of Pasco, WA.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wanda was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Mann and one nephew, Jeremy Hill.
