Truman Cunnish

April 21, 1945 — November 29, 2023

Truman Cunnish was born on April 21, 1945, in Prairie View, OK, to the late Joel & Rena (Edwards) Cunnish. He passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, in Ada, at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 8 days.

Truman grew up in the Sulphur area. At a very young age, he began working for Ollie Roofing, prior to joining the United States Marine Corp on January 6, 1964.  While serving in the Marines, Truman completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. While serving, he earned several prestigious medals, prior to being honorably discharged on January 5, 1968. After returning from the Marines, Truman spent a number of years working in concrete construction for several major corporations. He then spent several years working as a deckhand and driller for Poole Oil Company, prior to managing the Chickasaw Travel Stop in Davis. His final 18 years of employment were spent working with Edison Chouest.

Truman, a proud member of the Choctaw Nation, was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was very artistic and enjoyed spending time drawing. In his spare time, he enjoyed “tramping” around in the woods, cooking, and reading. Truman had great compassion for stray animals, tending to all that he came across. He was a very devoted follower of Jesus Christ and spent countless hours reading his bible.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 years, Margaret (Kennedy) Cunnish; two daughters, Samantha Rankin of Mill Creek, and Bobbi J. Cunnish of Sulphur; six grandchildren, Marty Phillips, Matthew Phillips, Mark Phillips, Brennon Cunnish, Aura Cunnish, and Morgan McKim; three great-grandchildren, Ryker, Dominique, and Hayden; two sisters, Deloris Garner of Sulphur, and Judy Summers of Davis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Truman was preceded in death by one sister, Dona Lowrance, and five brothers, Manuel Cunnish, Jimmy Jo Cunnish, Bobby Gene Cunnish, Billy F. Cunnish, and Joe Edward Cunnish.
