Thurman Lee Stephens
Thurman was born May 6, 1939 in Roff to the late Albert & Bertha (Tywman) Stephens. He died Thursday, Nov 26, 2015 in Clinton, OK at the age of 76 years, 6 months & 20 days. Thurman and Bette Davis were married on Sept 9, 1960 in Roff. She preceded him in death on Oct 16, 1997.
After graduating from Roff High School in 1958, Thurman continued his education at East Central University. While at ECU, he was drafted into the US Army, and gave two years of service to our country, during the early Vietnam era stationed in Greece. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Thurman returned home and completed his bachelor’s degree at ECU. Throughout his life, he worked as a self-employed farmer/rancher, retiring in 1998.
Thurman was very active with his children during their youth, as they showed cattle throughout the state. He was always the “ringleader” in everything he participated and helped with. Thurman was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors one daughter, Terri Green & husband Larry of Ada; one son, Harold Stephens & wife Tammi of Atoka; one granddaughter, Timber Meadows & husband Trask of Tushka; one grandson, Ridge Stephens of Atoka; as well as on sister, Mary Cornell of Roff.
Others preceding him in death include four sisters, Mildred Harbor, Ruby Johnson, Eula Mae Brown and Shirley Stephens; and six brothers, Robert, Virgil, Carl, Bill, Don and Roy Stephens.
A family & friend visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
