Thelma Fay Counts

Fay was born Oct 4, 1937 in Ardmore to the late Louis L. & Leah Lavern (Stewart) Fisher. She died Tuesday, Mar 17, 2015 in Oklahoma City, at the age of 77 years 5 months 13 days. Fay and Allen L. Counts of Dunbar, West Virginia were married at Gainesville, TX in 1953

Fay grew up and lived in Ardmore prior to moving to Dougherty in 1970. She worked several years as a nurse’s aide at the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital, the Sulphur Veteran’s Center and at area nursing homes. Prior to that, she worked as a clerk at the Dougherty Post Office. Fay loved her family and worked hard to provide for them. She was a past member of the Dougherty City Council, serving one term as Mayor. Fay was a very talented musician. She, along with her twin sister May, could play most any instrument they wanted to.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathy Burleson of Dougherty, Kelly Preast of Drake and Patricia Weldon of Mill Creek; four sons, Darrell Counts of Mill Creek, Sean Counts of Sulphur, Justin Counts of Marietta and Kevin Counts of Dougherty; twin sister, May Schlehuber of Dougherty; as well as, twenty seven grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Fay was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Count; one daughter, Alice Fay Weldon and a brother, James Fisher
