Robert Owen “Bob” Lewis was born October 1, 1930 in Sulphur to the late Frank and Ina (Townsley) Lewis. He passed from this life on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in Sulphur, at the age of 90.
Bob grew up in Sulphur, graduating from Sulphur High School, Class of 1948. Following high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the US Army, Bob returned to Sulphur and attended East Central University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Science.
Bob taught Science at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf for several years. During that same time, he owned and operated a filling station in Sulphur. Bob left teaching and began rodeoing full-time until the death of his wife Babe and twin daughters, Jan and Ann. Although the tragic death of his family ended his full-time rodeo career, Bob never completely stepped away from the sport. Prior to retirement, he owned and operated Lewis Motors of Sulphur.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed fishing, swimming, quail hunting; and of course, anything to do with rodeo.
Survivors include his son, Rush Lewis; five grandchildren, Kade Lewis, Dakota Lewis & wife Erin, Arena Lewis, Makynze Lewis and Jake Gulla & wife Tiara; as well as four great-grandchildren. Nora Lewis, Lynnlee Fletcher, Sawyer Gulla and Fynn Gulla.
In addition to his parents, wife Babe and twin daughters, Jan and Ann, Bob was preceded in death by one son, Randy Lewis; as well as all of his siblings.
