Robert Jackson Jennings Jr

Robert, the oldest of seven children, was born Sept. 22, 1922 in Canadian, OK to the late Robert Jackson & Carrie (Goodwyn) Jennings. He grew up in Canadian and graduated from Canadian High School. After high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Army in 1940, and served during WWII.

While serving overseas in England, Robert met Joyce Witherington. After returning to Oklahoma, He & Joyce were married on Jul 26, 1947 in Norman. After being honorably discharged from the U. S. Army, Robert obtained a Bachelor’s degree from South Eastern Oklahoma State University, followed by his Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.

After college, Robert pursued a career as a business teacher at Davis Public Schools, where he proudly served 34 years before retiring in 1984. Hobbies he enjoyed were gardening, painting, spending time with family, friends & loved ones, as well as, eating lunch and socializing at the Davis Sr. citizen’s center.

Robert passed away peacefully, on the morning of Mar 19, 2015 at the Sulphur Veterans Center, at the age of 92 years.

Survivors include two grandsons, Jeff Jennings & wife Jodi and Josh Jennings & Sari Wells; daughter-in-law, Jeanie Jennings, all of Davis; four great-grandchildren, Jaylee, Jett, Jax & Jenner Jennings; four sisters, Mary Jesseph, Carol Ann Shabbot & husband Karl, Susan Wyche & husband Tommy and Shirley McLain; one brother, Richard Jennings & wife Sue; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends of the Davis Senior Citizen’s Center.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife Joyce in Sept 2004; son, Roger Jennings in Sept 2012; brother, Harold Jennings, three brothers-in-law, Lloyd Jesseph, Ken Clark & Brad McLain; and sister-in-law Marye Jennings..

Funeral services will be held 2:00PM, Tuesday, Mar 24, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Davis with Pastor Luke Panter officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff & Josh Jennings, Bo & Levi Thomas, Paul Gray and Jim Clemons. Honorary bearers will be Jaylee, Jett, Jax & Jenner Jennings, Pete Byrd & Royce Dale Jones.
