Graveside services, with full military honors, for Robert Donald Williams will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 16, 2020 at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating.
Robert was born November 7, 1938 in Enid, OK to the late Hubert and Josephine (O’Rourke) Williams. He died Sunday, July 12, 2020 in Sulphur, at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 5 days. Robert and Estella Cottrell were married on January 1, 1969 in California. She preceded him in death on October 6, 2013’
Robert grew up in Enid. Following his high school graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp. During his service to our country he received numerous awards, medals and commendations, including the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Cross of Gallantry. On September 30, 1976, after 20 years of dedicated service, Robert received an Honorable Discharge from the Marines. He then began working for Dowell Schlumberger of Dallas, where he spent 20 years. Prior to his 2012 retirement, Robert worked as a cross country truck driver.
Robert was an avid fan and participant in the rodeo industry. He enjoyed riding bulls, bareback bronc riding, as well as bull fighting. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and had a soft spot for animals, especially his faithful horse, Sid. He possessed a second degree black belt in Karate, was skilled in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and was a Golden Glove Boxer.
Survivors include five daughters, Suzie Hadlock & husband Barry of Sulphur, Bridget Williams of Sulphur, Susanne Williams & husband Jerry of California, Denise Kase & husband Chris of Kansas, and Coleene Sheehey & husband Pat of Missouri; six sons, Robert McLain & wife Amy of Oklahoma City, Robert Leslie Williams & wife Pam, Dennis Williams of England, Ronald Williams of Missouri, Steve Williams of Kansas and Todd Flowers of Arkansas; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including two granddaughters, Shawona Bull and Tracy Flowers, whom he raised.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00PM, Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
