Reba Kay Blackburn

November 8, 1934 — July 29, 2024

Reba K. Huffines was born on November 8, 1934 to Oscar and Elien Bowser Huffines in Sulphur, Oklahoma. She passed away on July 29, 2024 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Reba was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Elien Huffines, and by her loving husband of sixty years, Bob Blackburn. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Moore and her husband, Wayne, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, and Kristi Blackburn and her partner, Steph Palmgren of Edmond, Oklahoma, and by one son, Rob Blackburn and his wife, Redonna of Sulphur. She is also survived by two grandsons, Cole Hogg of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Blake Hogg and his wife, Melanie, of Ardmore; and by three great-grandchildren, Addison Hogg, Brody Hogg, and Emerson Hogg of Ardmore. Reba is also survived by one sister, Nelda Lewis of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Reba attended Sulphur schools throughout her school years and graduated Sulphur High School in 1953. She married Robert Blackburn on August 19, 1955. They made their home in Sulphur where they raised their three children and had many friends. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she attended Sunday School and church faithfully her entire life. She had been a member at Calvary longer than any other member of the church- approximately 79 years. She loved and put her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age. She taught Sunday School for many years and remained active until she was no longer able to do so.

Reba worked for Sulphur Public Schools for fourteen years and then for the Oklahoma School for the Deaf as an administrative assistant for fifteen years before retiring in 1997. Later she worked part-time at the Cowley-Krein funeral home, a job she thoroughly enjoyed.

She loved to read books, the newspaper, and magazines, being a member of the Sulphur Book Club for many, many years and long before Oprah and much of America had ever heard of a book club. She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor. She wrote clever poetry for fun and delivered funny one liners, sarcasm being a second language to her.

Reba enjoyed shopping with her daughters and loved to buy purses and shoes. She enjoyed going to bluegrass festivals with Bob and taking wonderful vacations with her girlfriends from high school. Oh the places they would go! She was always a good friend, with her childhood friends remaining some of her best friends throughout her life. There was never more laughter than when she spent time with them. She was certain that Elvis was the greatest entertainer of all time and there was always an Elvis CD playing in her car.

Reba was a loving, caring, generous daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She lived her life well, and is now rejoicing and being rewarded in heaven in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her friends and family who had gone on before.
