R.E. “Sonny” Lawson

Graveside services for R.E. “Sonny” Lawson were held 1:00PM Saturday, Aug 2, 2014 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore with Oklahoma State Senator Frank Simpson officiating.
Sonny was born Feb 15, 1947 in Rubottom, OK to Roy Edward and Leoda (Barrick) Lawson. He died Thursday, July 31, 2014 in Oklahoma City, at the age of 67 years 5 months and 16 days. Sonny and Aquilla were married on Sept 20, 1980 in Las Vegas, NV.
Sonny grew up in Arizona where he graduated from Benson High School in 1964. Throughout his life, most of his time was spent farming and ranching. Prior to his death he was employed with East Jordon Iron Workers in Gene Autrey, OK. In his spare time, Sonny enjoyed team roping, fishing and playing marbles.
Survivors include his wife Aquilla; daughter, Leeona Lawson of Willcox, AZ; four sons, Dale Lawson of Ardmore, Johnny Lawson of Tucson, AZ, Ronny Lawson & Justin White, both of Ardmore; eight grandchildren, Justin, John, Kyle, Cody and Wesley Lawson, Joshua White, Howard Post and Jamie White; two great-grandchildren, Makenzi and Ryker Lawson; as well as one brother, Jerry Lawson of Prescott, AZ; and four sisters, Joyce Martin, Judy Ford & Saundra Hitchcock all of Phoenix, AZ and Carrie Sue Fletcher of Arkansas.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parent and one sister, Royce Yaraborough.
Serving as pallbearers were Dale, Johnny, Ronny & Justin Lawson, Justin White and Rusty DuBois. Honorary bearers were John, Kyle & Wesley Lawson, Joshua & Jamie White and Howard Post.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to “The Sonny Lawson Memorial Fund” c/o Landmark Bank, 2525 N Commerce, Ardmore, OK, 73401.
