Funeral services for Ralph Douglas “Corky” Gibson, Jr, were held 10:00AM, Saturday, Nov 8, 2014 at the Midway Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating. Interment with military honors followed in the Dougherty Cemetery.

Ralph was born April 2, 1943 in Redding, CA to the late Ralph D. & Mollie (King) Gibson. He died Tuesday, Nov 4, 2014 in Ardmore, at the age of 71 years 7 months and 2 days. Ralph and Judie Marie Fontanie were married on April 8, 1967 in Reno, NV. She preceded him in death on Sept 8, 2007, along with one sister, Mary Vickers.

Ralph and his family made their home in Marietta, prior to moving to Rodeo, CA at the age of nine. After graduating from John Sweat High School in 1961, Ralph was drafted into the United States Marine Corp, serving during the Vietnam War. While in the Marines, he received the Purple Heart Medal for injuries received during battle. Other honors he received for his service to our country included Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After he was honorably discharged, Ralph later graduated from Sacramento State University with a BA degree in History.

Throughout his working career, Ralph worked as a machinist for several companies, as well as owned and operated a swimming pool business with his sister. Ralph was a very devoted Christian and held deaconship at the First Baptist Church of Vacaville, CA, the Dougherty Baptist Church and most recently, Midway Hill Baptist Church. His devotion and love for Christ led him to teach numerous bible study classes throughout the churches he served in. Ralph also served on the Dougherty City Council, holding the position of Mayor several terms.

Survivors include three sons, Ralph Gibson, III & wife Denise of Dougherty, Robert Gibson of Woodward and Ryan Gibson & wife Sunee Lynn of Dougherty; seven grandchildren, Curtis, Nicole, Kyle, Haylee, Mollie, Gabrielle & Coby; one sister, Janelle Santi & husband John of Alamo, CA; as well as numerous cousins including, John Stephens of Lodi, CA.

Service’s are entrusted to HALE’S FUNERAL HOME, DAVIS.
