Ozimar Soares Barbosa

Funeral Mass for Ozimar Soares Barbosa will be held 1:00PM, Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at the Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sulphur, with Father Aaron Foshee officiating. A viewing and visitation will take place on Monday, October 4th, from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM, at Hale’s Funeral Home in Sulphur.

Ozimar was born July 18, 1977, in Ceres Goias, Brazil. He died Wednesday, September 29, 2021, in Sulphur, at the age of 44. He and Susana Martinez Ovalle were married on January 29, 2016, in Mexico.

At the early age of 17, Ozimar won his first championship as a bull rider. Winning that championship encouraged him to follow his lifelong dream of becoming a professional bull rider. That dream took him from Brazil to Mexico and then to the United States in 1998. In 2005, his dream was solidified when he became a member of the PBR. At the time of his death, Ozimar was employed with the CD Brown Construction Company of Sulphur.

Survivors include his wife, Susana Martinez Ovalle; two daughters, Celia Maria Soares, and America Ayrin Soares, all of Sulphur; mother, Floraci Soares Barbosa; six siblings, Maria Celia Soares, Daniel Soares, Ezequiel Soares, Oziel Soares, Ozeli Soares and Ruth Soares.

Ozimar was preceded in death by his father, Adirco Francisco Barbosa; and his best friend, Sinomar, whom he revered as a brother.
