Odean Durham
Odean was born Apr 21, 1917 in Freestone County, TX to the late John & Edna (Ezell) Bulin. She died Tuesday, Dec 4, 2012 in Sulphur at the age of 95 years 7 months and 13 days. Odean and Clyde Benton “C.B.” Durham were married on Dec 17, 1933 in Headley, TX. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1983. Others preceding her in death include three sisters and one brother.
Odean and C.B. moved to Davis from Chickasha in 1955, purchasing a local business that became known as Durham’s Laundry located on North 5th street. In 1963, they sold the laundry business and purchased a café from Jack Frazer; renaming it Odean’s Café located at 306 East Main. Odean was known for her great short orders and homemade pies. In 1965 she sold her café and began working for Edna Abell at Abell’s Drug store, now known as City Drug. In 1970, Odean began working for the Davis Public Schools in the cafeteria and was soon assigned as the Cafeteria Manager until her retirement in 1991.
Odean was the last known charter member fo the First Assembly of God Church in Davis, where she served as the church secretary/treasurer for the better part of 20 years. She taught the Sr. Sunday School for many years. Odean was very active with the church’s Ladies Auxiliary for a number or years, becoming known for her help in making fried pies.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Bolding & husband Howard and Delores Lee & husband Raymond, both of Davis; four grandchildren, Greg Bolding & wife Audry of Sulphur, Mark Bolding & wife Leona of Oak Point, TX, Deborah Earsom & husband Arthur of Dougherty and Cherita Green & husband Bryant of Little Elm, TX; five great-grandchildren, Brandon Bolding, Tiffany Bolding, Kramer Green, Joshua Bolding and Ryan Earsom; as well as three great-great grandchildren, Alexxis Pittman, Ava Bolding and Brady Earsom.
