Norma Louise Roady

October 17, 1931 — February 6, 2022

Norma Louise (Cottrell) Roady passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at age 90. She was born October 17, 1931, in Davis, Oklahoma, to Ottie Eris "Jack" Cottrell and Jenny Copeland Cottrell. She lived her entire life in Davis and deeply loved her town and her life here.
Norma attended Davis Public Schools, graduating as salutatorian of the class of 1949. She married Harold Roady, with whom she had three children, Harolda, Gerald, and Jill. Norma graduated from East Central College in 1969 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught 2 years in Dougherty and 22 years as a first-grade teacher in Davis Public Schools, retiring in 1993. She dearly loved her first graders and enjoyed seeing them grow up and have families of their own. Norma was also an enthusiastic Davis Wolves Football fan. On Friday nights, she could be found in the stands cheering for her Wolves.
Upon retirement, Norma was active in the Murray County Retired Teachers Association and Friends of the Library and enjoyed trips to California, Arizona, South Dakota, Florida, Washington D.C., the Albuquerque balloon festival and sailed on an Alaskan cruise. Her foremost hobby was reading, and she kept a notebook full of titles of books she had read. She was an excellent cook and seamstress, but her true passion was her family.
Norma was a member of the Methodist Church (Pathway United Methodist) for at least 70 years. She served as a member of United Methodist Women, choir member, a member of the administrative board, an office assistant, and a scholarship committee member as well as a volunteer assisting in countless activities.
Norma never met a stranger. She loved talking with people and being involved in her church and community. Any time she was away from her hometown, she would proudly announce to new acquaintances that she was from Davis, Oklahoma, with a little fist pump.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother. She is survived by children Harolda Gibson (Laniel) of Norman, Gerald Roady (Debbie) of McLoud, and Jill Smith (Eddy) of Norman; grandchildren Drew Gibson (Amanda), Gerron Gibson (Lauren), Brent Roady (Karen), Ryne Roady (Ashley), Easton Smith and Landon Smith; great-grandchildren Austin Gibson, Morgan Roady, Colin Roady, Addie Roady and Owen Roady.
Thank you to all the friends, neighbors and students who were part of her life and a special thanks to Maudie and John Huggins and Rick Bowen for their caring assistance.
Funeral services for Norma will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Pathway United Methodist Church in Davis. Those officiating the service will be pastor Ben Williams, Ben Randall, and Glen Simonsen. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.
