Funeral services for Nancy Ann Smith were held 2:00 PM, Monday, Nov 18, 2013 the Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis, with Brother Randy Chapman officiating. Interment followed at the Green Hill cemetery.

Nancy was born Sept 9, 1937 in Davis to the late Elmer and Rena (Dodson) Kelly. She died Thursday, Nov 14, 2013 in Davis, at the age of 76 years 1 month and 5 days. Nancy and Bennie Smith were married on Nov 7, 1953 in El Paso, TX. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1993. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Olan Kelly.

Nancy was a lifelong resident of Davis. Early in her adult years, she began a career in nursing at Hale’s Nursing Home of Davis as a nurse’s aide. It was during this time, that owner, Eb Hale, gave her the opportunity to attend school. She received her LPN certification in 1966 and quickly earned the position of Director of Nurses for Hale’s Nursing Home, which became known as Burford Manor Nursing Home in 1977. Nancy worked as the manager of Burford Manor until 1990 when she returned to school and received her Nursing Home Administration Certification. It was at this time she was awarded the position as Administrator of the Burford Manor Nursing Home and worked until her retirement in 2003. After only two years of retirement, Nancy decided retirement was not for her, so she went to work at the Treasure Valley Casino, where she worked until failing health forced her to retire in early 2013.

Nancy is survived by three daughters, Benita Cottrell & husband Steve, Tammy Anderson and Lori Pierce & husband Dean, all of Davis; four grandchildren, Stephanie Cottrell, Ryan Cottrell, Jeremy Stearman and Dwight Pierce, all of Davis; eight great-grandchildren; as well as, one special niece, Colleen Carroll of Davis.

Serving as pallbearers were Ryan Cottrell, Jeremy Stearman, Dwight Pierce, Shane Aaron, Howard Aaron and Gary Harris. Honorary bearers were Steve Cottrell, Dean Pierce, Jim Shultz and Brian NeSmith.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Murray County Healthcare Foundation, c/o Arbuckle Memorial Hospital, 2011 W Broadway, Sulphur, OK 73086.
