Mildred Kathleen (Hurt) Wakefield

Mildred was born Sept 14, 1935 in Bokoshe, OK to the late Albert Thomas & Elva Marie (Crase) Hurt. She died Wednesday, Feb 11, 2015 in Sulphur, at the age of 79 years 4 months & 27 days. Mildred and Virgil William Wakefield were married on Jun 6, 1953 at the Trinity Baptist Church in EL Reno. Together they spent 61+ years.

Mildred grew up in EL Reno where she graduated high school in 1953. Immediately following their marriage, she and Virgil made their home at Shepard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX for several years prior to returning to EL Reno. From EL Reno, they moved to Yukon for a few years prior to settling in Mustang for 23 years. In 1989, Mildred & Virgil moved to the Sulphur area to enjoy their retirement. Mildred was an amazing pianist, always giving God the glory for her talent. In younger years, she along with her two sisters often sang in trio, with Mildred playing. Throughout her life of serving the Lord, she played piano at several churches. Although piano was near and dear to her heart, the most important thing in her life was her family. Besides playing the piano, Mildred also enjoyed cooking and decorating cakes. She was a devoted member of the Chickasaw Trail Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband Virgil; son, Randy Wakefield of Sulphur; two sisters, Gwen Luschen of Prague and Una Miller of Mansfield, TX; as well as several nieces & nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Lee Wakefield.
