Funeral services for Melvin Robert Clark will be held 2:00PM, Thursday, Jan 29, 2015at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis, with Brother Bobby Allison officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.

Melvin was born on Feb 6, 1925 near Ft. Towson, OK to the late Charles Frank & Bessie Lora (Bayless) Clark. He died Friday, Jan 23, 2015 in Sulphur, at the age of 89 years 11 months and 17 days. Melvin & Marion Davis were married in 1948.

Melvin grew up in the Shawnee area where he graduated high school in the mid 1940’s. He then joined the US Army and served in Occupational Forces in Japan and the Philippines. After he was honorably discharged, Melvin returned home and attended Oklahoma Baptist University on the GI Bill. He transferred from OBU to the University of Oklahoma where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 1950 and in 1952 his Master’s in Education. His first teaching job led this young couple to Boise City, OK then to Wayne, OK in the mid 1950’s. From Wayne, they moved to Fredrick, OK and then in the summer of 1966, Melvin & Marion accepted teaching positions at Sulphur. Throughout his teaching career he taught high school and elementary music. After retiring in 1986, Melvin volunteered his time playing the keyboard at area nursing homes and senior citizens centers. For his volunteerism, he received numerous citations, letters of appreciation and recognitions. He also spent many hours of his retirement teaching English to the area Hispanic population. Melvin was quite the fitness enthusiast. He enjoyed jogging, lifting weights and exercising. In his spare time he was an avid stamp collector.

Survivors include his loving wife, Marion; two sons, Robert Lee Clark & wife Michelle of Sulphur and Edward Alan Clark & wife Connie of Bedford, TX; five grandchildren, Janie Lynn Clark, Connie Sue Clark, Carol Ann Clark, all of Dallas, Alena Nikol Clark of Dalhart, TX and Charles Hunter Paul of Los Angeles, CA; as well as one sister, Deloris Simons of Temecula, CA; two nieces, Denise Smith & Connie Mahaffey and one nephew, Clark Van Wick.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Louise Clark in May, 2014; and two brothers, Wilbur Clark and Gilbert Clark.
