Funeral services for Melvin Leroy Over, of Oklahoma City, will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Sulphur with Pastor Micah White officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.
Leroy was born October 13, 1934 in Joplin, MO to the late Walter Percy & Lovetta (Eades) Over. He died Thursday, February 14, 2019 in Oklahoma City, at the age of 84 years 4 months and 1 day. Leroy and the former Miss Wilma Jean Awbrey were married on May 16, 1959 in Oklahoma City.
Leroy grew up in the Tulsa area, moving to Oklahoma City in his later teen years. He was a 1953 graduate of Oklahoma City Central High School. In 1956, he joined the United States Army, serving until he was Honorably Discharged in 1958. Following his service to our country, Leroy returned to Oklahoma City where started the Leroy Over Construction Company. In the early 2000’s, Leroy retired after 40+ years of commercial and residential construction. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife, Jean; two sons, Richard Allen Over & wife Carol of Yukon and Steven Lee Over & wife Linda of Keller, TX; three grandchildren, Whitney Over & wife Calli, Kristen Over and Noah Over & wife Mikaela; two great-grandchildren, Aeson Over and Svea Hurt; five step-grandchildren, John Paden, Zachary Paden & wife Tatiana, Katherine Paden, Robert Paden and Trish Stanfield & husband Casey; as well as three step great-grandchildren, Arya Paden and Merril & Marla Standfield.
In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Dombeck.
