Melvin “Fuzz” Chaffin
Melvin was born on September 22, 1930 in Weinert, Tx to the late William Arthur and Kittie Elizabeth (Fields) Chaffin. He died Monday, Apr 15, 2013 at his home in Sulphur, at the age of 82 years 6 months and 23 days. Melvin and LaDonna Kay Lance were married on June 26, 2003 in Eureka Springs, Ark.
Melvin was a 1949 graduate of Sulphur High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After his time in the military, Melvin returned home and began working as a pipe-fitter for O.G. & E. and later for R.L. Fraley Construction Co. In 1995 he retired from Ranger Construction where he worked as a project superintendent.
During his retirement years, Melvin enjoyed fishing and dancing. He had a passion for yard work, which was evident in the appearance of his yard and flower beds. Melvin also enjoyed carpentry work and did just about everything he set his mind to.
Survivors include his loving wife, LaDonna Kay; three daughters, Janet Gray & husband Mark of Springfield, MO, Becky Durant & husband Dan of Choctaw and Stacey Howe of Ardmore; two sons Scott Chaffin & wife Courtney and Keith Chaffin & wife Kim all of Springfield; two sisters, Barbara Dale & husband Jimmy of Davis and Carolyn Brewster of Sulphur; one brother, Paul Chaffin & wife Kay of Sulphur; two step-children, Carol Jones of Ardmore & Ronnie Greene of Oklahoma City; as well as 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Melvin was preceded in death by wife, Billie Jean (Greene) Chaffin; three sisters, Nathalia “Nat” Watson, Billie Kathryn Brown and Mary Beth Woodell; and one brother, G.W. Chaffin.
