Maxine Van Orden

Funeral services for Maxine Van Orden 70, of Davis, were held 2:00 PM, Monday, Sept 30, 2013 at the Crossway First Baptist Church of Sulphur with Pastor Bill Leveridge officiating. Interment followed at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.

Maxine was born Aug 5, 1943 in Tulsa to the late Samuel P. and Vivian T. (Reese) Billups. She died Friday, Sept 27, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Waco, TX after a brief illness.

Maxine was raised in Sulphur by her Grandmother Mildred Reese. In 1959 she married Jimmy Ledford and moved to Athens, GA where they had two daughters, Regina & Carla. She returned to Sulphur in 1966 and worked for Norwood’s Café & Dove’s Drive Inn. In 1967 she went to work as a dorm parent at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf where she retired after 23 years of service.

Maxine married the love of her life Jerry Van Orden on Apr 10, 1975 in Ada and spent 34 wonderful years by his side until his death in 2009.

In her spare time she enjoyed reading, playing Canasta with her special friends, painting, crocheting and getting her hair fixed every week at Charlotte’s.

Special thanks to some of her dear friends Yvonne Holler, Ramona Petty, Kelli & Livi Owens, Pat Busby, Billie Coll, T. I. Davis, Charlotte Pruitt, Sandy Parsons, Fred & Dixie Flowers, Harold Hunt & Davis School Superintendent Mike Martin for all of their help and support.

Survivors include her daughter, Carla Price & husband Alec of Waco; step-daughter Debra Van Orden of Davis; step-son, Leonard Van Orden of Sulphur; five Grandchildren; five Great-Grandchildren; as well as, one brother, Danny Joe Billups & wife Teresa of El Paso.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Van Orden; parents Vivian & Samuel Billups; daughter Regina Davis; Grandmother, Mildred Reese; and step-son David Van Orden.

Services were “Entrusted To” HALE’S Funeral Home of Davis, OK.
