Mary Ruth Lawrence

Mary Ruth Lawrence was born January 5, 1931 in Davis, OK to the late Birt and Elva Ann (Chandler) Eddy. She died Tuesday, March 17, 2020 in Sulphur, at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 12 days. She and John L. “Johnny” Lawrence were married on June 14, 1947 in Sulphur. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2018.

Mary grew up in the Davis and Chigley community. She attended school in Chigley, prior to graduating from Sulphur High School. Early in her adult life she worked at McClellen’s Department Store in Sulphur. She then became a full-time, stay-at-home mother, where she worked diligently to provide the very best for her family. Mary was a very creative individual. She had a passion for writing poetry and short stories. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing. Mary was a very devoted and active member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Church.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Lawrence & wife Ethel and Scott Lawrence & wife Monica; one daughter, Angela Morris & husband Johnny, all of Sulphur; six grandchildren, Michael Wayne Lawrence, John Paul Lawrence, Christy Dean, Adrian Corwin, Amanda Corwin, and Brandi Lawrence; ten great-grandchildren, Asher & Anna Lawrence, Gracee, Brooklyn & Cassidy McAlister, Jody Fuller and Michael, David, Baylee and Madison Lawrence; two great-great grandchildren, Benjamin Fuller and Sebastian Corwin; as well as many dear friends within her church and community.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by one son, John W. Lawrence; one daughter, Anita “Kathy” Page; and one sister Jean Bahn.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, March 20, 2020 at the Dougherty Cemetery with Richard Little officiating.
