Funeral services for Mary Lou Shamel will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, July 22, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Davis with Pastor Bobby Allison and Pastor Andrew Davidson officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.
Mary Lou was born April 18, 1923 in Sulphur, to the late William Leonard & Maude (Cotton) Shamel. She went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 in Sulphur, at the age of 96 years, 2 months and 29 days. She and Dick Taylor Frye were married on July 10, 1941 in Lawton, OK. He preceded her in death in 1985.
Mary Lou grew up in Sulphur, graduating from Sulphur High School. Throughout her life she resided in several places including Oklahoma, Texas, California, Missouri and Arizona. Mary Lou was a very classy lady with a caring heart. She was very strong in her faith and expressed Christian love to all she came in contact with. She had a passion for interior design. She was always rearranging furniture, buying new furniture and redecorating, not only her own home, but anyone else who asked for her assistance. Mary Lou had a love for red birds, as she considered each a reminder of the hope she had in Christ. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ for church services. She loved gardening and had a passion for flowers. Attending and being involved in church was very important to her. She was a charter member of The Home Church of Sulphur. Previously, she was a member of Calvary Baptist of Sulphur and First Baptist Church of Davis.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jane (Frye) Wortman & husband William, of Jay, OK; two sons, William T. Frye of Tulsa and Bobby Allison & wife Jennifer of Sulphur; and three grandchildren, Emily Vander Ark & husband Justin of Los Fresnos, TX, Roman Wortman of Edmond, OK, and Alexander Wortman of Tulsa, OK; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Lou was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Mary Kathryn Paul; grandson John William Sullivan; one sister, Sue Le Flore Marshall; and one brother, William Leonard Shamel, Jr.
Serving as pallbearers will be Zac Stonecipher, Shaune Kimmel, Terry Gregory, Ernie Smith, Kelly Blackburn, Tony Woodell and Randy Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in memory of Mary Lou Shamel to Kehila Park, Sulphur, OK (kehilapark.com).
