Marla Kay Rather
Kay was born October 19, 1942 in Dallas, TX to the late Forest & Arla (Chamberlin) Garland. She died Sunday, August 23, 2015 in Sulphur, at the age of 72 years 10 months & 4 days. Kay and Claude M. Rather were married on September 16, 1972 in Dallas. He preceded her in death in August, 2005.
Kay grew up in Dallas were she attended high school and college. She worked 10 years as a secretary in commercial insurance sales. In the mid 1970’s, she & Claude moved from Dallas to Gillham, AR. After Claude’s death, Kay moved to Sulphur to be near her nieces. She worked as the church secretary at the First Free Will Baptist Church in the late 2000’s, prior to working two years with the Arbuckle Historical Society. In her spare time, Kay enjoyed sewing, counted cross-stitching and painting.
Survivors include two brothers, Forest Kent Garland of Virginia Beach, VA and Thomas Glen Garland of Granbury, TX; as well as, local niece, Darla Harden and great-niece, Judy Woods, both of Sulphur.
