Marion C. Lowery

Funeral services for Marion C. Lowery were held 10:00AM, Tuesday, Sept 16, 2014 at the Dougherty Baptist Church with Pastor Alan McCoy officiating. Interment followed in the Dougherty Cemetery.

Marion was born Sept 15, 1929 in Vale, NC to the late Charles Avery & Susie M. (Shuford) Lowery. He died Thursday, Sept 11, 2014 in Sulphur, OK at the age of 84.

Marion grew up in Vale. In 1948, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served 20 plus years of dedicated service to our country. After retiring from the Navy, Marion owned and operated a sports club in San Andres, CA for many years. Later, he and a couple friends opened Club Paradisio in Valley Springs, CA where he tended bar for many years. On May 15, 1982, Marion married the love of his life, Emma Rae (Woods) Stephens in Lake Tahoe, NV. Shortly after their marriage, both Marion & Emma began a career in real estate sales, working for Century Twenty-One Myers Real Estate in Valley Springs. In 1990 they moved to Colonial Beach, VA where together they owned & operated Century Twenty-One at the Beach, selling the business and retiring in December 2003.

In December 2005, Marion & Emma sold their home in Colonial Beach and moved to Emma hometown, Dougherty, OK, to enjoy their retirement. During his retirement, Marion was very seldom ever idol. He planted a large garden each summer that yielded enough vegetables for many of the residents in Dougherty. His career in real estate led him to purchase several pieces of property in Dougherty, thus adding to his enjoyment of remodeling and mowing. Marion’s house was always easy to find during Christmas. Usually in early November he would start decorating and by the first day of December, he had his very own “Christmas Winter Wonder Land” that could be seen for several block around.

Marion was very supportive of the town of Dougherty, especially the Dougherty Fire Dept. He found great joy in seeing young people get started and be prosperous in life. Marion faithfully attended the Dougherty Baptist Church, until failing health prevented him from doing so.

Survivors include his loving & devoted wife Emma; two sisters, Dot Slaten of Riversid3, GA & Joan Powers of Vale; two brothers, Ben Lowery of Colorado Springs, CO & Eddie Lowery of Vale; three step-daughters Latana (Stephens) Locke & husband Kenneth, Peggy (Stephens) Van Cleve, both of Colonial Beach and Sherry (Stephens) Stokes of Dougherty; five step-grandchildren, Jennifer Rathburn, Kenneth Locke, Roger Huffman, Julie Williams & Misty McDowney; as well as ten step great-grandchildren McKenzie, McKayla, McKinnley, Elijah, Kara, Austin, Clayton, Bonnie, Elizabeth and Jaylan.

Marion was preceded in death by his parents and one step-daughter, Jamie Sue (Stephens) Green.
