Lucille Jones Matlock

Lucille, the youngest of 10 children, was born Sept 21, 1922 in Ava, MO to the late Robert & Cora Ellen (Rhea) Jones. She died Wednesday, Mar 9, 2016 in Davis, at the age of 93 years 5 months & 18 days.
Lucille attended school in Buffalo, MO where she graduated valedictorian of her class. She continued her education at Ventura Junior College in Ventura, CA prior to transferring to Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee. It was at OBU that Lucille met her future husband, Herbert Matlock. They married May 22, 1942 in Prague and enjoyed 58 years of marriage, prior to his death on Feb 29, 2000.
Throughout their marriage, Lucille assisted Herbert as he served as pastor of numerous churches in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma, including Roady Baptist, Immanuel Baptist, Central Baptist and missions in Joy and Big Canyon. Together they also served as missionaries in the Panama Canal Zone prior to settling on a farm north of Davis. Lucille taught school at Joy and served as Associational Women’s Missionary Union director for eight years. When Herbert retired, they ran a Christian book store, The Book Nook, out of their home. Lucille was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Davis where she taught Sunday school for over 60 years.
Survivors include her three sons, Paul David Matlock & wife Diana of Houston, Philip Matlock of Oklahoma City and Charles Matlock of Davis; four grandchildren, Michael Matlock, Brian Matlock, Kevin Matlock Hobbs and Rhea Gilliland; as well as 14 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lucille was preceded in death by nine siblings and one great-granddaughter, Anna Belle Gilliland.
Serving as pallbearers were Michael, Garrett, Austin & Brian Matlock, Jeremy Gilliland and Sean Samson.
