Funeral services for Lester Dean Billings will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Crossway First Baptist Church in Sulphur with Pastor Bill Leveridge officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.
Dean was born February 28, 1931 in Maysville, OK to the late Ossie William and Macie Jewel (Roberson) Billings. He died on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in Ardmore, at the age of 87 years, 8 months & 3 days. Dean and the former Ms. Maxine “Dianne” Cornwell were married on December 27, 1954 in Gainesville, TX. She preceded him in death on December 19, 1998.
Dean grew up in the Oak Grove Community, north of Sulphur. He joined the United States Army on April 22, 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict. Following an Honorable Discharge from the Army on April 21, 1954, Dean returned to Sulphur where he worked some 20 years for the Kraft Food Company. Following his employment with Kraft, he owned and operated a Poultry Farm until his retirement in the late 1990’s.
Dean was always abreast to the current news. Whether it be from a national news station, information learned at an area coffee shop or secrets he pried out of his family, Dean always knew the latest and most interesting news. In his spare time, he enjoyed dancing, playing poker with his friends and being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Gail Arms & husband Rocky, Cheryl Lynn Zeppa & husband Mark and Patricia Ann Clark & husband David, all of Sulphur; one son, Michael Dean Billings & wife Heather; 11 grandchildren, Russell Arms, Stephanie Cason, D.J. Peterson, John Ross Roland, Kenneth Atteberry, Kevin Atteberry, Michelle Billings, Kendra Billings, Michael Billings, Jr., Canada Cortesio and Kylie Emerson; his loving companion of 18 years, Geneva Adams and her daughter Debbie Smithers; two sisters, Paula Buchanan and Donna Stubblefield; three brothers, Terrell Billings, Larry Billings and Cleve Billings; as well as fourteen great-grandchildren, Drei, Kristian, Jordan and Sydnee Peterson, Clinton, Caison, Emmilynn & Elora Roland, Shayne, Dalton & Braden Atteberry, Jamie Chisholm, Amy Rocka and his “best bud”, Ava Dean Cason.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dean was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda Jean Grissom and one brother, Donald Lee Billings.
