Graveside funeral services for Lawrence Ray Meely will be held 2:00PM, Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at the Sandy Baptist Cemetery in Sulphur, with Pastors Johnny Meely and Randy Wade officiating. Due to COVID, social distancing and facemasks are requested by those attending the service
Lawrence, better known as Ray, was born August 29, 1960 in Dallas, TX. He died Wednesday, November 25, 2020 in Ada, at the age of 60 years, 2 months and 27 days. Ray and the former Beverly Jean Berryhill were married on July 19, 1996 in Sulphur.
Ray grew up in the Sulphur area. He attended school in Sulphur, Duncan and Davis. Following his high school graduation from Davis, he attended Okmulgee Tech School where he studied carpentry. After returning from Okmulgee, he worked several jobs in the area, including Turner Falls Park, which he enjoyed. The final 16 years of his life, Ray worked for the Chickasaw Nation in their transportation department. In younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. Ray was an avid fan of Davis Wolves football, always having faith they would win their next game. Ray was a devoted member of the Sandy Baptist Church, where he enjoyed serving any where he was needed.
Survivors include his loving wife, Beverly; his beloved mother, Willarene (Brown) Amos; step-daughter, Angela Colbert & husband Michael; two step-sons, Benjamin Berryhill and Bryan Berryhill, Sr, all of Sulphur; three sisters, Rosetta Lynn & husband Donald, Karen Colungo & husband Johnny and Frances Barrett & companion Gerald Crittenden; two brothers, Mitchell Meely and Kevin Meely & wife Brigett; as well as seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ray was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Willie and Etta Brown; and one cousin, Pam Nelson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Farve, Benjamin Berryhill, Michael Colbert, Derrick Barrett, Corey Whitebuffalo, Darnell Colbert, Cory Stephens and Dennis Underwood. Honorary bearer will be Sonny Brown.
