Funeral services for K.B. McCracken were held 2:00PM, Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the First Christian Church in Sulphur, with the Reverend Tim Kowalski officiating. Interment followed at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.

K.B. was born Sunday, September 5, 1943 in Kenefic, OK to the late John A. and Pearl S. (Morris) McCracken. He died Friday, September 18, 2020 in Sulphur, at the age of 77 years and 13 days. K.B. and the former Ms. Elizabeth Jane Price were married on March 30, 1962 in Sulphur. She was truly the love of his life. From this union were born two children, Kenneth and Vickie.

K.B., born the third of five children, grew up in the Emet area, prior to moving to Dougherty in his early teen years. Throughout his life, he worked at many jobs, as he was never one to set idle. As a young teen kid, he worked with his family, picking cotton. At the age of 16, K.B. and a couple of his friends got the bright idea to spend the summer in California harvesting crops. As the school year approached, he received a call from his dad saying, “Come home and start school, or I will come get you!” Upon returning home from California, his dad quickly informed him “Boy you’re getting a haircut before you go to school!”

K.B.’s next big job was working at the Borden’s Milk Company in Sulphur, to help support his family. After a few years, he left Borden’s and began working for the Prestolite Battery Company. Unfortunately, layoff’s sent him packing up and moving his family to Sulphur. When he returned to Sulphur, K.B. worked for Ralph Dodson’s Construction Co, as well as for his brother Marvin, at the Sinclair Station, where he did mechanic work and drove the tow truck. Finally in 1986, K.B. began working at the Southern Oklahoma Resource Center in Pauls Valley, where his worked until his retirement.

K.B. spent his retirement years walking his dog, Lucky, in the park, driving his wife Elizabeth around, vacationing, feeding the neighborhood birds and eventually the squirrels, as well. He was a very skilled silversmith and enjoyed making jewelry for family and friends. He loved to talk and share his life stories and adventures with others. He was the best story teller ever! K.B. was a very kind and giving man. He will be remembered as simply being a great man.

Survivors include his beloved wife Elizabeth; one son, Kenneth McCracken; one daughter, Vickie Skidmore & husband Buddy, all of Sulphur; four granddaughters, Jenilee Skidmore & spouse Mike Beaney, Kathleen Standefer & spouse Craig, Kaci McCracken & spouse Shaeli Scruggs and Emily Barker; five great-grandchildren, Zaylee, Zeeva, and Zeth Skidmore-Beaney, Alyison Barker and Kellan Standefer; one brother, Mike McCracken; as well as several nieces and nephews.
