Memorial services for Kay Drake will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Davis High School Auditorium, 400 East Atlanta, with Alvin Turner, Ph.D officiating.
Kay, 71, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at her home in Davis, OK on the afternoon of Thursday, March 29, 2012. Kay was born October 25, 1940 in Ringling, OK.
Kay was married to Bob Drake for more than 50 years, having married her high school sweetheart. She attended junior high and high school in Davis, where she was a proud member of the “Sexy 7”. She attended college at The University of Oklahoma, and later at East Central University in Ada. Kay often said that she had “a Ph.D in ‘Bob Drake.’”
She was a member of the Akomda Club of Davis. Kay was an avid bridge player and belonged to four Murray County bridge clubs. In fact, she hosted bridge at her home on March 27, 2012, and felt in great health until the moment of her surprise passing. Kay loved dancing; she and Bob belonged to several dance clubs over the years. Together, they had jitterbugged since 1955.
Kay was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her beautiful flower gardens. She loved interior design and collected antiques. She was an animal lover, and usually had her beloved Yorkie, Zena, traveling with her. She and Bob traveled often, and enjoyed friends all over the United States. Kay was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a loyal friend.
Kay Drake is survived by her husband, Bob Drake, of the home; son, Joe Drake & wife Nancy; daughter Whitney Drake; three grandchildren, Tabbetha, Heath and Whitman Drake; great grandchildren, Kendall and Kyler Drake; sister-in-law, Julie Blevins; nephews and niece, Christopher, Mitchell and JoAnna Blevins; brother-in-law, Tom Drake & wife Judi; nieces, Stacey Drake Harness, Paige Drake Magee and Ashley Drake Wiley; and her Yorkie, Zena Drake.
Kay was proceeded in death by her grandparents, Robert Claude and Jewel Boyd; parents, Kenneth and LaWanda Blevins; and brother, Kenneth Blevins, who passed away of known heart disease earlier the same day Kay died.
Honorary bearers include Tina and Gerald Goodson, Joe Pirkle, Bill and Sandra Chapman, Randy Chapman, Fred Goldberg, Neal and Martha Amarino, Andy and Susan Phillips, Joe Farr, Don Britton, Curtis and Candy Davidson, Edd McNeil, Bill Jaxon, David Pittman and Scott Pittman, and her girls…the “Sexy 7”, Tina, Merlene, Carolyn, Jeral, Betty, Delma and Rita, and all her bridge partners.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the home of Bob and Kay Drake, 1006 E. Ellis, Davis, OK.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church @ PO Box 522, Sulphur, OK 73086
