Funeral services for John Michael “Mike” Welch will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, December 14, 2020 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Sulphur with Pastor Tom Hefley officiating. Interment, private to family members only, will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.
Mike was born January 22, 1969 in Ada, OK to John C. “Jake” and Nelda R. (Sims) Welch. He died Saturday, December 12, 2020 in Sulphur, at the age of 51 years, 10 months and 20 days. Mike and Michelle Alexander were married on June 9, 1989 in Wynnewood. From this marriage was born three daughters Ashley, Stacey and Micaela.
Mike grew up in Sulphur, graduating from Sulphur High School in 1987. Following high school, he attended the Moore-Norman Vo-Tech. He spent 24 year working at the Sulphur Veterans Center. Mike had many interests in his life. He enjoyed riding motorcycles with his brother Patrick. He also enjoyed watching the Barrett Jackson and Mecum car auctions. Mike was a Ford Mustang enthusiast and faithfully entered his cars in the annual Sulphur and Pauls Valley car shows. He cherished spending time with his family, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching John Wayne Westerns and any crime scene investigating shows. Mike was an avid fan of OU Football.
Mike was a very devoted and loving father. Together, he and his girls enjoyed motorcycle rides and attending PBR and other rodeo events. He was continually bragging to others of how proud he was of all three of his girls.
Survivors include his three daughters, Ashley Nicole Welch of Oklahoma City, Stacey Renee Welch of Shawnee and Micaela Dawn Welch of Sulphur; his mother, Nelda Welch of Sulphur; grandson, Cooper; brother, Patrick Welch & wife April of Lone Grove; sister, Susan Downing & husband Walt of Warner Robins, GA; and two nephews, Joey Downing & wife Bonnie of Centerville, GA and Jeremy Downing & wife Amiy of Kathleen, GA.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jake Welch; maternal grandparents, McKinley and Katie Sims and paternal grandparents, JR and Lily Welch.
Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick Welch, Walt Downing, Jeremy Downing, Joey Downing, Brent Chandler and Donnie Ramer. Honorary “Heavenly Pallbearer” will be the late Jimmy Britt.
