Joel Wayne Mann was born June 18, 1943, in Elsa, TX, to the late Haldene “Sonny” and Mildred (Jordan) Mann. He died on Thursday, August 25, 2022, in Davis, at the age of 79. Joel and the former Ms. Nona Mae Callis were married on March 16, 1961, in Acuna, Mexico. This marriage was blessed with two children, Lynn and Joe.
Growing up in Sulphur, Joel attended Sulphur Public School, joining the United States Army, his senior year. Following his service to our country, Joel spent 25+ years employed with Dolese Brothers, supervising their bridge beams transports. Prior to retirement, he spent 10 years working for Western Rock, now Hanson Aggregates, driving a truck. In his spare time, Joel enjoyed tinkering with anything that had a motor. He was never one to pass up a good garage sale or auction, knowing full well they had something he needed. Joel had a great love for children, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he enjoyed spoiling. Prior to failing health, Joel could be found every morning from 7-8AM, having coffee with friends at the Dougherty Store.
Survivors include his wife, Nona; daughter, Bunny Lenhart & husband James of Noble; son, Joe Mann of Dougherty; three grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Bugher & husband Mark, Justin Lee Mann, and Isabella Rockford; two great-grandchildren, Riggins and River Bugher; one sister, Barbara Digby; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Joel was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Joe & Viola Mann, who raised him; and one brother, Jerry Don Mann.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis, with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr officiating. Burial will be held at the Dougherty Cemetery.
