Jimmie Melvin “Jim” Cottrell

Funeral Services for Jimmie Melvin “Jim” Cottrell will be held Thursday, Oct 17, 2013 at the Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis with his brother, Jerry Cottrell officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery.

Jim was born on Oct 10, 1930 in Davis to the late Oliver & Gertie V. (Jeter) Cottrell. He died Sunday, Oct 13, 2013 in Sulphur, at the age of 83 years and 3 days. Jim and Velma “Skinny” Buckaloo were married Feb 1, 1950 in Gainesville, TX. After her death in 1988, he married Nelda “Juanita” (Green) Gage on Mar 16, 1991.

Jim grew up in the Davis area and attended Woodland School. During his working career he was employed as a Roustabout for Holden Energy and Jack Webb Trucking. Jim enjoyed traveling, fishing and spending time with his dog Peppie. In recent years, he along with Juanita, worked as Foster Grandparents for the Davis Elementary School.

Survivors include his wife Juanita; two daughters, Betty Veach & husband Ronnie of Davis and Gay Milam of Sulphur; four grandchildren, Rodney Veach and wife Rebecca, Kayla Hunt and husband Mitchell, Bubba Rolen and Nickie Swain, all of Sulphur; seven great grandchildren, Brock, Gabriel, Shiann and Nickie Veach, Jimmy & Elora Hunt and Anthony Swain; one sister, Emagene Gibbs; two brothers Floyd & Jerry Cottrell, all of Davis; as well as four stepsons, Michael Cox, David Cox, Kenneth Gage and Bryan Gage; 14 step-grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Jim was preceded in death by one son, Ronnie and a grandson-in-law, James Swain.
