Janice Marie "Wynema" Batson entered heaven’s gate on September 24, 2021. She stood strong in her faith and loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart. She was born in Guthrie, OK on September 15, 1945, to the late John and Louise Whitehorn.
Wynema grew up in Sulphur, OK. Later in life, she made the move with her mother to Berkeley Springs, WV, where she graduated high school in 1963. She married Joe McCoy of Berkeley Springs, on September 22, 1963. From this marriage was born Tiffany and Nate McCoy. After divorcing Joe, Wynema moved back to Sulphur, meeting her soul mate, Jerry "Joe" Batson. On May 30, 1980, they married in Gainesville, TX, and soon welcomed Jera and Rainey Batson into the world.
Wynema and Joe moved to the DFW area in the late 1980s. In the early 90s, she graduated from Barber College in Lewisville, TX. After graduating, she became employed at Highland Barbers in Carrollton, TX , where she worked off and on for 15 years.
Wynema moved to Sanger, TX in 1996, where she and her family remained for 21 years. She moved to Thackerville, OK in 2016, living life to the fullest, spending time with her kids and grandchildren. God was always number one in her life! Wynema was a member of the Abundant Life Church in Ardmore, OK, where she served the Lord until her very last breathe.
Survivors include her four children, Tiffany McCoy of Ft. Worth, TX, Nate McCoy of Berkeley Springs, WV, Jera Braly & husband Clint of Thackerville, OK and Rainey Hitt & husband Corey, also of Thackerville; grandchildren, Dylan & Kassy Moore, McKinley & Tanasia Cornish-Moore, DJ Batson, Skyley Batson, Brooke Braly, Bryce Braly, Kylin Braly, Kinley Braly, Kendal Braly and Shea Hitt; siblings, Bobby Lee Hawvermale & wife Kay of Martinsburg, WV, Linda Frantz of Sulphur, Deanna Cheshewalla of Thackerville, Tandy Taylor of Magnolia, TX and Rod Edwan of Farmerville, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry “Joe” Batson on January 17, 2006; two brothers, Doug and Johnny Whitehorn; grandson, Dalton Montana Moore; and niece, Mindy Wooten.
Funeral services will be held 2:00PM, Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Sulphur, with Pastor Michael Caraway officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM, Wednesday evening, September 29, 2021, at the funeral home.
Services are entrusted to Hale’s Funeral Home of Sulphur.
