Funeral services for James Elvin Harden will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the First Free Will Baptist Church, in Sulphur, with Pastor Dick Terry officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery, in Sulphur.
James was born on July 14, 1935, in Lula, OK, to the late John & Gladys (Reed) Harden. He passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at his home, in Sulphur, at the age of 88. James and the former Ms. Darla Jean Anderson were married on December 21, 1974, in Henrietta, Texas.
James grew up in Lula, graduating from Velma High School, Class of 1953. Following high school he continued his education at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting. After college, James became employed with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, working 35 years as an accountant.
James was very gentle, kind, and loving man. His love and devotion to his family was unwavering. His patience helped to make him the best husband, father and grandfather a family could ever ask for. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on computers, fishing, spending time giving his grandchildren rides on his scooter, and pulling pranks on his family.
Survivors include his loving wife, Darla; three daughters, Judy Woods of Sulphur, Arlene George of Davis, and Janie Sprague of Davis; one son, Clint Parr, Jr; nine grandchildren, Nicholas Glover, Darla Woods, Johnnie George, Timothy George, Amber Sprague, Lacie Standridge, Clint Parr, III, Sandra Waters, and Crystal Herringshaw; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one son, Joe Daniel Parr; his three brothers, Johnny, Arthur, and Sable Harden; his son in law, Glenn Woods; and two granddaughters, Miracle Faith George and Sarah Jane George.
Services are "Entrusted to" Hale's Funeral Home of Sulphur.
