James Edward Lancaster



James was born Feb 1, 1936 in Sulphur to the late Delbert “Peck” & Mable (Helm) Lancaster. He died Saturday, Sept 20, 2014 in Sulphur, at the age of 78 years 7 months & 19 days.

James, a life time resident of Murray County, was a 1956 graduate of Sulphur High School. He spent 32 years working at the Kerr-McGee Refinery in Wynnewood, retiring in 1988 as a Control Operator. Throughout his life, James also worked as a self-employed rancher. He owned thousands of acres for his large cow/calf operation. James was in the Real Estate business for many years. He would purchase large parcels of land, develop it and then sale the property in small acreages for housing construction. He also had many homes in the Sulphur/Davis area that he rented to others.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Bob Lancaster & wife Sherri and Jimmy Lancaster & wife Donna, both of Sulphur; seven grandchildren, Jerry Lancaster, Jr & wife Amy, Darcie Blackerby & husband Chris, Tara Lancaster, Jeremy Lancaster & wife Valerie, Jeff Meeks & wife Tanna, Aaron Farmer & wife Tiffany, and Josh Farmer; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as, the mother of his children, Fredia (Brewer) Gilbert & husband Dale.

James was preceded in death by two daughters, Terri Meeks & Becky Farmer; as well as two sisters, Joan Cozad & Mary Frank Young.

Serving as pallbearers were David Meeks, Don Brown, David Pittman, Kenneth Danley, Glen Clary & Monroe Lee. Honorary bearers were Jack Kirby, Paul Gray, Gene Bonham, Leo Barnes, Gene Underwood, Milton White, Kenny Curry, Charlie Brown, David McClure & Bud Graves.
