Services for Jack Hunt will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, Mar 30, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Sulphur with his granddaughter, Chelcie Hunt, Rev. P.J. Stewart and Rev. Harold Hunt officiating.
Jack was born Mar 7, 1937 in Kansas City, MO to the late Fred & Carrie (Paingburn) Hunt. He died Sunday, Mar 27, 2016 in Ardmore, at the age of 79.
Throughout his youth, Jack lived in several towns including Granite and McAlester, prior to returning to Sulphur. After graduating from Sulphur High School in 1955, he served in the US Army, prior to working with the US Forestry Service as a Fire Watchman. Jack later returned to the Sulphur area and worked as a pump mechanic for the Kerr-McGee Refinery in Wynnewood, retiring in 2002 after 39 years.
Jack had a passion for firefighting, which led him to serve 26 years as a volunteer with the Sulphur Fire Dept. Until failing health prevented him, even after retiring, Jack still spent many hours at the fire station assisting any way he could, bringing donuts for the firemen or just making sure he knew what was going on with the local fire service. He considered his fellow firemen as his family, enjoying his time with each of them.
Survivors include two sons, Fred Hunt & wife Brenna of Sulphur and Jack Hunt & Stachia of Davis; four grandchildren, Chelcie, Lauren, Tanner & Tyler Hunt; one sister, Carolyn Hunt-Sparks & husband John of Sulphur; as well as one niece, Carilyn Sparks and one nephew, John Sparks.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Ann Hunt.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sulphur Fire Department, both current and retired.
