Gary Norman “Butch” Parks was born August 28, 1937, in Pauls Valley, OK, to the late Albert “Piney” & Stella “Mammy” (Moore) Parks. He passed from this life on Friday, March 7, 2025, at his home west of Davis, at the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 7 days. He and the former Ms. Nancy S. (Myers) Readnour were united in marriage on January 31, 1986, in Gainesville, TX.
Butch was a lifelong resident of Garvin County. He attended elementary school at Union Springs, prior to graduating from Paoli High School. Following high school, he played professional baseball for the Kansas City “A’s”. After his time in baseball, he returned home, married the former Ms. Susie Dulin and began a family.
Butch was known to be a true workaholic. His diverse career began as a truck driver and pig farmer. Later he worked in the oil field as a pipeline construction supervisor for several companies including Lindsey Construction, Hammer Construction, and Vickers Construction. He also owned and operated P&M Construction, specializing in oil field consulting for several years prior to his retirement in 2004.
Butch was very active in the FFA chapters of Pauls Valley, Paoli, and Wynnewood, receiving the prestigious honorary membership to all three chapters. His involvement with the youth led him to be the father figure of countless young men, including Dean Tackett, O.C. Harper, Scotty Sanders, Burro Aquirre, Jamie Williamson and Bobby Reed. Butch helped many FFA students purchase projects, haul animals to shows and supported the students anyway he could.
Butch was a very loyal supporter and fan of Oklahoma State University.
Survivors include his loving wife, Nancy; four sons, Gary Lee Parks & wife Karin, Glenn Parks & wife Sheryl, Jim Parks & wife Stephenie, and Chris Scruggs & wife Dion; two daughters, Caitlin Parks & husband Tyler, and Jennifer Bloodworth & husband Terry; as well as thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by one grandson, Brock Norman Parks; and six siblings, Jo Hill, Orval Winters, Don Parks, J.L. Parks, Wanda Lou Parks, and Laura Parks.
Funeral services will be held 2:00PM, Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the Midway Hill Baptist Church, east of Davis. Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.
The family will receive friends from 4-6:00PM, Monday evening, March 10th, at the funeral home.
