Gary Lloyd Johnson
Gary Lloyd Johnson was born July 15, 1944, in Bowie, TX, to the late Harold L. and Jerry D. (Jarvis) Johnson Downing. He died on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, in Sulphur, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 5 days. Gary and the former Ms. Barbara F. Duggins were married on June 5, 1963, in Mangum, OK. To this union were born two sons, Dustin and Brandon.
Gary grew up in Mangum. After graduating from Mangum High School, Class of 1962, he continued his education at OSU Tech in Okmulgee, where he earned a degree in Electrical Construction. Following college, Gary worked as an oil field electrician for Conoco Oil in Enid, Oklahoma. In 1980, he happily accepted a promotion and moved his family to Davis. He later worked for Haliburton Services in both Davis and Duncan, prior to retiring from the Hanover Corporation. Throughout his career he also owned and operated Johnson's Electric.
Gary was a drag racing enthusiast from an early age. Whether he was racing street cars, or building dragsters from the ground up, he loved it all. Gary was also an avid fan of the Davis Wolves. For many years he stood on the sidelines and photographed the Wolves in action. During this time, he and Barbara were dedicated members of the Davis Wolf Boosters.
Gary was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His love for his family was unwavering. He was very active with his sons throughout their school years. That support continued into their adulthood, as well as into the lives of his grandchildren. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren made his life complete. Gary was immensely proud of his family and cherished spending time with each of them.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara; Dustin Johnson of Sulphur, Tammy Johnson of Davis and Brandon Johnson & wife Melody of Midwest City; six grandchildren, Tyler Johnson & wife Brittany, Kylie Griffin & husband Chance, Dylen Merrell & husband Trever, Dane Johnson, Austin Johnson and Caleb Johnson; eight great-grandchildren, Saylor, Cannon, Presti, Teller, Ronin, Rook, Ryker and LaRue; as well as one sister, Karen Kaiser & husband Terry, one brother, Duane Johnson, and one brother-in-law Bob Duggins and wife Charla of the Woodlands, Tx.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Ann Cullins, and one brother, Gerald Ray Johnson.
Per Gary's wishes, no service will be held at this time.
Cremation was entrusted to Hale's Funeral Home, of Davis.
