Funeral services for Gary Don Kesler will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, July 5, 2019 at the Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Sulphur with Pastor Dick Terry officiating. Interment followed at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.
Gary was born on February 14, 1958 in Sulphur to Zelma (Shepard) Kesler and Billy Royce Kesler. He went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 5, 2019 in Sulphur, at the age of 61.
Gary grew up in Sulphur, attending Washington Grade School, before moving to Midwest City, graduating from Midwest City High School in 1976. Gary served two years in the United States Navy. Most of that time was spent on board the USS San Jose traveling to many interesting places, but he most enjoyed Hawaii and Australia.
From an early age, Gary always loved repairing anything mechanical and in later years turned that attention to cars and motorcycles, always changing something about every one he owned. While in school, he played the clarinet in his Jr. High band and taught himself to play the guitar and banjo, very well.
Most of all, Gary loved his family and the time spent with his brother, Larry. He also enjoyed cooking out for friends and everyone around who was homeless or down on their luck knew they would be well fed at his home. Gary prayed for all of us daily.
Survivors include his parents, Zelma & Royce Kesler of Sulphur; his brother and sister-inlaw, Larry & Darlene Kesler of Del City; one niece, Melissa Kesler of Midwest City; two aunts, Alice Bowen of Harrah and Shirley Biggers & husband Mickey of Oklahoma City; one uncle, L.D. Kesler of Sulphur; as well as many cousins, extended family and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Luther & Leonia Shepard; paternal grandparents, Loyd & Lena Kesler, all of Sulphur; and one cousin, Lee David Bowen of Jones, OK.
