Frieda was born September 5, 1931, in Chandler, OK, to the late Williams Dewey Brown & Ruby Lucile (Daufain) Brown. She entered the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, August 25, 2023, in Bethany, OK, following a lengthy battle with dementia.
At a young age, Frieda and her family moved from Chandler to Hayward, California, returning to Chandler where she attended high school. As an exceptional student, she was active in numerous scholastic and sporting events, including basketball, cheerleading, twirling, trick roller-skating, jitter-bug competitions, and vocal competitions. Frieda was the Chandler High School Delegate to the Girls’ State Convention in 1948.
After high school, she and Ronald Duty, from Stroud, OK, married in 1949, making their home in Pampa, TX, prior to moving to Davis in 1952, when Ronald took a job with Shell Oil in Ratliff City. While raising their family in Davis, Frieda and Ronald were active with the Davis Wolf Boosters and the Davis PTA. She was also a very active member of the First Christian Church of Davis where she led the church choir. Frieda was known for her beautiful voice. She shared her vocal talent in numerous area churches, schools, weddings, and funerals. She was a member and officer of the Euterpean Music Club for many years. Following the death of her husband, Frieda founded the Ronald Duty Memorial Track Scholarship that was awarded to a local deserving senior.
In addition to being involved with the Davis School and her church, Frieda was a very civic-minded individual. She worked as the secretary of the Davis Chamber of Commerce for a few years, prior to working as a Deputy Clerk for the Murray County Tax Assessor for 17 years. Upon the retirement of Assessor Curtis Sharp, Frieda was elected as the Murray County Tax Assessor. Following her retirement from the Assessor’s office in 1985, Frieda spent several years working as a licensed Realtor in the Moore area.
Frieda was a very gentle-souled lady. Her kindness and beautiful smile brought such peace to those around her. Her love and devotion to her children was unwavering. If you were blessed to have Frieda as a friend, you quickly learned that her loyalty was second to none.
