Floyd Cottrell was born July 6, 1933, near Wildhorse Creek, west of Davis, to the late Oliver and Gertie (Jeter) Cottrell. He entered into the eternal presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at his home in Davis.
Floyd grew up west of Davis, on the banks of Wildhorse Creek. After graduating from Woodland High School, he joined the United States Army on June 24, 1953. He was always very proud of his service to our great country. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Floyd married the late Betty Ingram. From this union were born two children, Pamela and David. As a young family, they resided in Oklahoma City, where Floyd attended barber school. He spent many years barbering, prior to working briefly as a brakeman/switchman for the Santa Fe Railroad. Later they moved back to Davis where he began working in the oil field. On April 22, 1988, Floyd married the former Ms. Harriette Gay in Davis, adding three sons, Terry, Royce and Dale, to his family. Throughout his career in the oil field, he worked for several companies, prior to retiring as a salesman for Chemical Pump and Supply in 2008.
Floyd was a very kind and sincere man. His love for his Lord and Savior was unwavering. As an early riser, Floyd began each day alone in prayer and worshiping his Lord. His day often included reading, watching old westerns and spending time with his family, along with his beloved dogs and cats. Floyd was a rather humorous individual who enjoyed pestering those that he loved.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife Harriette; his daughter, Pam Craig & husband Mike of Davis; sons, David Cottrell and Dale Fondren; grandchildren, Joseph Giddens & wife Kristin, Travis Strickler & wife Shelly, Brittany Uhles & husband Bobby, Michael Blevins, Kelsey Blevins & Tabbetha, Cejae Blevins & Cassie, Lex Fondren, and Ava Fondren; numerous great-grandchildren; one sister, Emagene Gibbs of Pauls Valley; one brother, Jerry Cottrell & wife Mona of Oklahoma City; and two daughters-in-law, Detra Blevins and Claudia Blevins.
In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Cottrell; and two sons, Terry and Royce Blevins.
Funeral services will be held 10:00AM, Thursday, June 29, 2023, at the Assembly of God Church, in Davis, with Brother Billy Staggs officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis. A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday evening from 5-7PM, at the funeral home.
