Ernest M. “Ernie” Perhus
Ernie was born on Nov 18, 1930 in Kindred, ND to Albert and Dorothy Perhus. He died Friday, Jun 7, 2013 in Sulphur, at the age of 82 years 6 months and 19 days. Ernie and Donna Gross were married on July 14, 1960 in Eagle Rock, CA.
Ernie served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his service to our country, he and Donna made their home in Glendale, CA where he worked as a bus driver for Southern California Rapid Transit. In 1985, he and Donna both retired and moved to a ranch in the San Juaqine Valley (Strathmore) where they were citrus and olive growers. In 1999, they once again retired and moved to Oklahoma to be near family. Ernest was an avid Nascar fan.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; sister, Delores Doberstein & husband George of Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Carol Nye of Sulphur & Bonnie Portwood of Minnesota; brothers-in-law, Bob Gross & wife Sue of North Dakota & Lyle Gross & wife Harriet of Iowa; as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Edna Hoover & Marian Oxford; brother, Alvin Perhus; four brothers-in-law, Elton Hovern, Cleon Nye, Bud Gross & Larry Portwood; a nephew, Jeff Nye; as well as his poodle, “Scamper”.
Serving as pallbearers were Ron Tillery, David Lopez, Will McCown, Bill McCown, Monty Magruder and H.C. Rackley. Honorary bearers were his fellow residence of the Sulphur Veteran’s Center.
