Funeral services for Elvert Lavon “EL” Newton, Jr. of Kenefic, OK will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, Oct 10, 2012 at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis with Monty Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in the Dougherty Cemetery.
Elvert was born July 30, 1958 in Oklahoma City to Elvert Lavon and Julila (Cargile) Newton. He died Saturday, Oct 6, 2012 in Oklahoma City at the age of 54 years 2 months and 6 days. Elvert and Nona Sue Cooper were married on June 4, 1988 in Edmond.
Elvert grew up in the Oklahoma City area and moved to southern Oklahoma 12 years ago. He was currently employed with Oklahoma Steel and Wire Co in Madill where he worked as a machinist. Elvert was very much a family man, spending every opportunity he had with them, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and gardening. His family described his as “willing to try anything, even raising chickens.”
Survivors include his wife Nona; two sons, Von Newton of Chandler and Jacob Newton of Harrah; two daughters, Lõna Newton of Oklahoma City and Elizabeth Newton of Kenefic; two foster daughters, Nikki Johnson of Florida and Rachel Robinson of Oklahoma City; mother, Julila Ramay of Oklahoma City; father Elvert “Von” Newton & wife Annetta of Newcastle; maternal grandparents, Don and Anita Hill of Oklahoma City ; three grandchildren, Hannah, Kaitlyn and Abby; five brothers, Randy Newton of Kingston, Jeff Newton of Georgia, Richey Stovall of Oklahoma City, David Satterlee of Oklahoma City and Shane Toon of Texas; as well as and two sisters, Janet Hamilton of Claremore and Coco Toon of Oklahoma City.
