Edward Lee Morton was born at home in Hennessey, Oklahoma on September 3, 1936. After a brief illness, he passed away on March 25, 2023, at the family home in Sulphur, Oklahoma, with his daughters by his side.
Ed graduated from Sulphur High School in 1954. He proudly wore #15 for the Bulldogs and capped off his senior year by making the Oklahoma All State Football Team. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Oklahoma where he received his Bachelor’s degree and was an active member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He then attended law school at the University of Oklahoma and received his Juris Doctorate. After a career in law and banking, he spent the rest of his career working for Coates Field service. Ed was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sulphur (Crossway) and retired from the United States Navy Reserve as a Full Commander.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Ralph Warren and Maxine Morton; sister Murrow Morton; sister and brother-in-law, Judith and Tom Drake; and brother, William “Bill” Morton.
Survivors include his daughter, Faith Westervelt & husband Jimmy, grandchildren Chance and Peyton; daughter, Leslie Schlarb & husband John, grandchildren Reilly and Jordan. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Morton; nieces, Stacey Drake Harness & husband Ricky, Paige Drake Magee & husband Shawn and Ashley Drake Wiley & husband Guy, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ed left behind a legacy of love, friendship, service to his country and others that will last for generations.
His family would like to thank Cross Timbers Hospice for their care of our Daddy in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making contributions to the Crossway First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, March 31, 2023, at the Crossway First Baptist Church, in Sulphur, with Pastor Bill Leveridge officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.
The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, on Thursday evening, March 30th, from 6-7PM.
Services are entrusted to Hale’s Funeral Home of Sulphur.
