Graveside services for D. Armenta (Akers) McWethey will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, September 11, 2020 at the Dougherty Cemetery, with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating
Armenta was born May 28, 1937, west of Dougherty, to the late Johnnie Oscar and Alta Mae (Hale) Akers. She died Sunday, Sept 6, 2020 in Davis, at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 9 days.
Armenta grew up Dougherty, attending Dougherty School. On December 19, 1953, she married Daniel Bettinger, and from this marriage was born two children, Danny and Judy. Armenta made her home in the Oklahoma City area for many years, where she worked in retail sales. In 1990, she moved back home to Dougherty to be near her parent and brothers. Prior to retiring in 2000, Armenta spend ten years working as a book keeper for the Artesian Nursing Home in Sulphur.
In her spare time, Armenta enjoyed sewing, family genealogy and working in her yard. She had a great love for cats and spent countless hours caring for and tending to her cats, as well as any other stray cats that came by.
Survivors include her son, Danny Bettinger & wife Kim of McAlester, OK; her daughter, Judith Bettinger & husband Garold Holcombe of Maud, OK; five grandchildren, Denise Bettinger-Ryan & husband Kevin of McAlester, Daniel Bettinger of McAlester, Raymond Bettinger of Great Bend, KS, John Holcombe & wife Brianne of Pinehurst, NC and Melissa Holcombe Weidow & husband John of Geronimo, OK; nine great grandchildren, Michael, Kamiryn, Christopher, Carter, Raven, Rialey, Trenton, Rhylan and John; her four brothers, Arlin Akers of Sulphur, Darrel Akers & wife Virginia of Sulphur, Harrel Akers & wife Hilda of Ratliff City and Douglas Akers & wife Margaret of Dougherty; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
