Carra Mae Malicoat

March 14, 1923 — March 3, 2025

Carra Mae (Hefley) Buffington-Malicoat was born on March 14, 1923, in Loco, OK to the late James Thomas and Mamie Lee (Howard) Hefley. She passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, in Sulphur, just 11 days shy of her 102nd birthday. Carra Mae and William "Pete" Buffington were married on February 8, 1944, in Pauls Valley, OK. To this union two daughters were born, Donna D. and Vicki Lynn. Pete preceded her in death on June 1, 1961. On November 26, 1966, she married Dewey L. Malicoat. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1972.

As a child, Carra Mae and her family resided in several towns including Loco, Russett, Woodville and Wynnewood View, prior to settling in Davis. After graduating from Davis High School, she spent some time working as a waitress at the Lion's Café in Davis. It was there that she met her soon-to-be husband, Pete. Later, Carra Mae spent many years working at the Palace Drug Store where she assisted customers and made countless life-long friendships. After the drug store burned, she continued doing clerical work for the drug store from home.

Carra Mae was a very loving and devoted mother. She was not only a mother to Donna & Vicki, but she shared her mothering skills with everyone throughout her family and anyone else she could help. She had a great sense of humor and was always ready to share a good joke with family and friends. She had a knack for telling stories that captured everyone's attention and interest.

Carra Mae was known for being an excellent cook. Whether it was a simple family dinner or a holiday meal, she was always willing and able to host. When she cooked, no one left hungry. Carra Mae was well known for many of her dishes, but more so for the delicious fruit cakes she made each Christmas.

Carra Mae was loved by all and will be greatly missed by her beloved family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna D. Smith of Sulphur; two brothers, James Hefley, Jr and Jerry Don Hefley, both of Davis; three grandchildren, Kari Lynn Haywood & husband Herachio, Judy Parks & husband Jack, and Jay Standifer & wife Karen; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Carra Mae was preceded in death by one daughter, Vicki Lynn (Buffington) Parenti; son-in-law, Jackie Smith; five sisters, Donna Dimple Buffington, Mary Norwood, Dorothy Timmons, Iva Nell Ruggs-Pletcher, and Delma Ann Wilson; and four brothers, Howard, Robert, R.L., and Joe Bill Hefley.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Green Hill Cemetery, in Davis. Her great-nephew, Pastor Tom Hefley will officiate the service.
