Billy Joe Epley

December 12, 1931 — July 1, 2021

Billy Joe Epley, lifelong resident of southern Oklahoma, died peacefully in his home July 1, 2021 at the age of 89. He is now rejoicing in Heaven.

Bill or "Epp" as he was commonly known, was born December 12, 1931, to Lilly and Jack Epley, on the Brown farm, in the Tussy area spending much of his time on the banks of Wildhorse Creek. His love of nature continued throughout his life.

After retiring from the oilfield industry, Bill blended two of his passions--learning and firearms. He graduated from Murray State College with a Gunsmithing Degree. Bill also was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed traveling with his family. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Outdoor adventures at Lake Texoma and Sulphur Park were numerous for his children and grandchildren. He also explored Alaska, Hawaii, Belize and Europe with his family.

Bill and the love of his life Jottie (Jones) graduates of Alma High School, married on December 24, 1950. Shortly after their marriage, Bill, a soldier in the U.S. Army, deployed on active duty to Korea where he served from 1951 to 1952. Bill and Jottie raised three children and enjoyed a marriage of 59 years.

Bill, preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother, Durwood Epley, is survived by his children and their spouses, Kathy and Dr. Charles Dickerson of Ratliff City, OK, Vance and Toni Epley of Ratliff City, OK, and Tina and Greg James of Locus Grove, Ok; grandchildren, Kirk Dickerson, Jason Epley, Jennifer Hunziker, Jennifer James-Anders, Tara Ruminer, Torrey James, Jessica James-Hendrix, and Desa James, and 14 great grandchildren.

Viewing will be held at Hale's Funeral Home in Davis, OK on Tuesday, July 6 from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm. A graveside memorial service will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur, OK at 10:00 am on July 7, 2021 with Dr. Charles Dickerson officiating.
